What:
Khartoum government is being accused of using distractive
chemical and aerial Bombardment to kill residents of South
Kordofan/Nuba Mountains, Blue Nile, and Abyei.
Why:
The Nuba Diaspora, in collaboration with international NGOs
operating in Sudan, called to end the violence, human and
humanitarian rights violation in Nuba Mountains which are
committed against innocent Nubians in South Kordofan (Nuba
Mountains), Blue Nile, and Abyei by the NCP led government of
Khartoum.
The Nuba Diaspora, in collaboration with international NGOs
operating in Sudan, are organizing a six day photo exhibition to
depict picture based evidence of the atrocities being committed
in the Nuba mountain and their Cultural heritage from 26-31
March.
The pictures will depict in details the cultural diversity of
the Nuba to pass a message of peace and show the
images captured by residents of
the Nuba and Satellite Sentinel Project confirming the
destruction of civilian homes, the presence of as many as eight
mass graves in South Kordofan/ Nuba Mountains, the deliberate
burning of villages, heavy armament movement and aerial
bombardment in many villages and in the Blue Nile region.
The Nuba Diaspora is
calling on the UN system to play a major proactive role to
rescue the situation in the three areas by stopping the
continuous Ariel Bombardment of civilians and all sorts of
atrocities in the Nuba Mountains. Reports from South Kordofan
Nuba Mountains specially across the borders in the Republic of
South Sudan testify as well to the serious situation and
desperate humanitarian needs.
“We will go on Hunger
strike on the 30th of March to confirm our repeated
appeals to the international community to rescue our people and
save our land” said the Nuba Diaspora.
The SPLM/North is
welcoming the humanitarian assistance in the areas under its
control which is currently denied by the Khartoum government,
stated the Diaspora.
It is estimated that up to 400,000 civilians have been
displaced from South Kordofan/ Nuba Mountain, and Blue Nile.
Furthermore tens of thousands lives have been lost. Some
civilians have fled into Ethiopia and South Sudan while over
43,000 civilians reportedly, are reportedly stranded at the
border, unable to enter South Sudan and suffering from severe
food shortages and continued aerial bombing by the Sudan Armed
Forces and militias. “Our people are under the hell of regime
fires and it is Iranian imported land mines and missiles”
mentioned the Nuba Diaspora calling for Humanitarian and Human
sovereignty prevalence over the political sovereignty.

Green Economy and Sustainable Development:
Bringing Back the Social Dimension
10 Oct 2011 - 11 Oct 2011 United Nations, Geneva
UNRISD Conference on
Green Economy and Sustainable Development: Bringing Back the
Social Dimension
Date: 10 - 11 Oct 2011
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
UNRISD Conference created a forum for analysis aimed at
developing a conceptual and policy framework that will position
social dimensions at the centre of green economy and sustainable
development. Policy reports and other publications will inform
the UNCSD 2012 (Rio+20) preparatory process and subsequent
policy discussions. The conference has critically examined the
following interrelated themes:
Competing Paradigms
How is the notion of green economy itself, and the consideration
of social dimensions, being framed, and with what effects in
terms of influencing policy agendas and shaping development
models?
The Challenge of Policy Coherence
What role can social policy, in association with economic and
environmental policy, play in minimizing costs, maximizing
benefits and building resilience, especially for vulnerable
groups? How does the green economy agenda connect with other
sustainable development objectives?
Agency, Interests and Coalitions
What forms of participation, contestation, coalitions, alliances
and compromises are emerging—or might need to emerge—to promote
green economy approaches that contribute to sustainable
development and poverty eradication?
Community Values, Institutions and Dynamics
How is green economy perceived and interpreted locally? How do
local level contexts and dynamics affect – and how are they
affected by – external interventions?
The Social Construction of Markets
How do societal norms and pressures, as well as public and
private regulation and governance, shape market relations and
business behaviour associated with green economy and sustainable
development?
Agriculture and Rural Development
What are the consequences of the restructuring of food
production, finance, energy and consumption patterns associated
with green economy for employment, livelihood security and
ecological sustainability in rural areas?
In addition to researchers from across Africa, Asia, Europe,
Latin America, North America and Oceania, speakers include
representatives of Cicero, Friends of the Earth International,
IFAD, ILO, Oxfam International, The South Centre, UNCTAD, UNEP,
UNESCO, UNRISD, WHO and the World Bank. Side events include an
UNRISD Book Fair and the art exhibit "In the Bag: The Art and
Politics of the Reusable Bag Movement". In association with
Green Drinks-Geneva, there will also be a social event on
Tuesday, 11 October at Brasserie des Halles de l'Ile.

Cooperazione allo Sviluppo
Giovedì 17 Novembre, ore 14.00 - 17.30
Camera dei Deputati - Sala del Refettorio
Via del Seminario 76
- Roma
A
tema dell’Enabling Environment in Italia e, infine,
allo sviluppo.
